How to use a Dell C1660 printer from Ubuntu

21. August 2015

So my old Samsung printer broke down and we needed a new one. Since the kids wanted something with color I decided to buy one with cheap cardridges a Dell C1660w. But (as usual) he does not work under Ubuntu with a little tinkering:

sudo apt-get install libcupsimage2:i386 libstdc++6:i386

Download the Linux driver for the Xerox Phaser 6000B: http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-6000/downloads/engb.html?operatingSystem=linux

Unpack and install with:

sudo dpkg -i xerox-phaser-6000-6010_1.0-1_i386.deb

After this setup a Xerox Phaser 6000B printer and you are ready.

Update: As of Ubuntu 15.10 you have to install libstdc++6:i386 so I updated the instructions above.
